Art on the Farm 2019: Session 2

We’re about two weeks into the second session of our summer program Art on the Farm and on this blustery morning, everyone is busily working in the studio for our second life drawing session. Our students just began their personal projects and this morning is an opportunity to briefly divert everyone’s attention, hone their observational skills and […]

Woosung Lee

Community update with Woosung Lee

Woosung Lee participated in our residency program in the autumn of 2014. Based in Seoul, Korea, his painting and drawing practice draw upon memory, nostalgia and humor to create whimsical tapestries that can exist both within a gallery setting or unexpected urban settings. In 2017 he provided a wonderful illustration for a limited edition run of mugs to fund the scholarship program for Art on the Farm, our summer art program.

In 2009 Woosung received his BFA in painting from Hongik University, Seoul, Korea and in 2012, his MFA from Korea National University of Arts, Seoul, Korea. Woosung has exhibited his work widely both in Korea and abroad and has taken some time away from his active studio practice to answer a few of our questions.

Emma McClurg Artist

Emma McClurg

Community update with Emma McClurg

Emma McClurg was one of our very first summer program students back in 2008 and returned to Art on the Farm again in 2010. We have such fond memories of those early years at Cow House and were probably learning as much if not more than our students during those first few summers.

In 2015, Emma graduated with a BFA in Visual Communication Design from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is now a Senior Art Director at Ogilvy in Chicago, a position she earned after a freelancing gig during her senior year of college. She has kindly taken some time out of her busy schedule to answer a few of our questions.

Community update with Marissa Alper

Marissa was a student during our summer programme Art on the Farm in 2013 and is currently located in Richmond, Virginia where she is pursuing a BFA in Photography and Painting at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Marissa’s work explores her experience bridging the gap between adolescence and adulthood. While exploring this, she touches on different aspects of her personal life and her relationships with those around her.

Recently, Marissa’s work was featured in Lomo Women among many other online and print publications. We’re incredibly happy to see Marissa getting some recognition for her fantastic work and were delighted when she agreed to take a bit of time to answer a few of our questions.

Community update with Zsofia Schweger

Zsofia was one of our visiting artists for Art on the Farm in 2011 and taught painting alongside Rosie for the entire summer. She studied at Wellesley College before moving to London in 2013 where she attended the Slade School of Fine Art, graduating with an MA in 2015.

Zsofia was selected for Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2016 and has been supported by several generous prizes. These include the Jealous Prize, Griffin Art Prize, the Alice C. Cole Award, and the ‘One To Watch’ Award. Her first solo exhibition was held in 2016 at Griffin Gallery.

Zsofia was an exceptionally hard worker and woke up early every morning to paint before her teaching duties began. We had no doubts that she would do well and were thrilled to hear of her success. We’re grateful Zsofia has generously taken some time to answer a few of our questions.

Limited Edition Mugs to Support Student Scholarship

If you have been to Cow House, then you know we love our tea so a mug seemed like the perfect way to launch our little shop. We will periodically offer limited edition beautiful things made by Irish craftspeople embellished with designs by our former resident artists.

Arran Street East is small Dublin based ceramic studio, we LOVED their mugs from the moment we laid eyes on them and you will too. This small batch is extra special because each one holds a little surprise when you lift your cup for a sip of tea or coffee. The drawings were specially designed by Woosung Lee, each mug is hand thrown and the drawings are hand stamped.

All proceeds go towards our scholarship fund. In other words, if we sell all these mugs, it will go towards funding a partial scholarship for a student to attend Art on the Farm. It’s a win-win; receive something beautiful and unique while helping to provide a special experience for a young artist.
