Three Castle Head

In County Cork, nestled just above Mizen Head, Ireland’s most Southwesterly point, lies the ruins of Dunlough Castle or ‘Three Castle Head’. Dunlough Castle or Dun a Locha, which means the fort of the lake, was built by Donagh na Aimrice O’Mahoney in 1207. In its glory days the castle sat proudly as three towers, […]

Carley’s Bridge Pottery

Twenty minutes from Cow House Studios, just outside Enniscorthy town, lies an area rich in history. Carley’s Bridge Pottery, established in 1654, pre-dates the O’Gorman farm by nearly 200 years and is known as Ireland’s oldest pottery. Founded by two brothers from Cornwall, England, they settled in the area because it was known to be […]

Open Residency Program

Applications are now open!

The Open Residency Program at Cow House Studios is intended to offer artists critically valuable time and space to think, research and make new work. Applications are open to both Irish and international cultural practitioners working in any discipline; visual artists, theatre-makers, writers, thinkers, choreographers, designers, performers, filmmakers, sculptors, photographers, etc. are all strongly encouraged to apply.

One Crazy Summer

Two days ago we said goodbye to the last of our wonderful students from Art on the Farm, 2014. We were truly fortunate to have such talented, engaged and thoughtful group of students for all three of our sessions. The quiet time around the studio these past few days has given us an opportunity to […]

Photo Gallery for Session 3

During our first few days everyone worked diligently in the studio making their own notebooks, learning their way around the darkroom and creating a series of acrylic paintings. Everyone has discovered the many delights of Mary’s baking, and we all had a chance to spark up new friendships with long chats over the dinner table […]

The Wild Bunch

It’s hard to believe it was only three short days ago we were in the studio looking at everyone’s amazing personal projects. Our last two weeks have been filled with activities too numerous to list, but a highlight would certainly include our trip to the west. We were lucky to get some pretty amazing weather […]

Final Photos from Session 1

Our final week was spent hard at work in the studio. We were amazed by everyones dedication to their final projects, and this was evident in the work produced. We were treated to some wonderful paintings, drawings, photographs and even a few installations. We wish everyone the best for the rest of the summer, and […]

Art on the Farm 2011

It has been just one short week since our last session left the farm, and the place seems almost too quiet without all the busy activity in the studio. No more rummaging through the kitchen for a mid day or late night snack, or sounds of Lola barking for just one more stick to be […]

Underfloor Heating System Installed

We are happy to announce that over the past few weeks we have been busy installing underfloor heating in the studio. This new system provides a much more comfortable working environment in the Autumn, Winter and Spring for our resident artists and portfolio students. Underfloor heating ensures an efficient, ecologically sound method for heating such […]
