The Barry O’Rourke Scholarships
Each summer, we award three scholarships for students to attend Art on the Farm. These scholarships honor Barry O’Rourke, a much-loved member of our family, and acknowledge how Barry lived his life, full of curiosity, compassion, and kindness.
Cow House Studios supports a portfolio scholarship and two need-based scholarships. All scholarship applicants must submit a portfolio that demonstrates an advanced practice. We assess student portfolios by determining how the realization of completed artworks reflects a young artist’s curiosities, concerns, experience, and research. Please read more about each opportunity below and note the following awards do not include airfare.
The deadline for the portfolio scholarship is Sunday, February 26th, 2023. The deadline for the need-based awards is Sunday, March 12th, 2023. All applicants will be interviewed, and successful applicants will be notified by Monday, March 27th, 2023.
1: Portfolio Scholarship: We award this scholarship to one individual based on the strength of the applicant’s portfolio and their artist’s statement. This scholarship equals 25% off our summer fees (€1575). The payment due is €4725. Download the portfolio scholarship application form here.
Need-based Aid: The following two opportunities are need-based. We determine our need-based aid using a formula based on the expectation of what a family can reasonably contribute to their child’s education. We consider a family’s income, assets, place of residence, and dependents within the household. Along with our application and portfolio requirements, parents must submit their most recent tax returns to determine eligibility.
2: Need-based Award: We award this scholarship to one individual based on the applicant’s financial need, the strength of their portfolio, and their artist’s statement. This scholarship equals 75% off* our summer fees (€4725). The payment due is €1575. Download the need-based award application form here.
3: Inclusion Award: This opportunity is open to individuals from historically underrepresented groups both here in Ireland and abroad. We award this scholarship to one individual based on the applicant’s financial need, the strength of their portfolio, and their artist’s statement. The value of this award equals our entire summer program fee. No payment is due to Cow House Studios. Download the inclusion award application form here.
