Since 2010 Cow House Studios has hosted several groups from Agnes Irwin School near Philadelphia, PA. In collaboration with art teacher Keri Farrow, Frank and Rosie have designed a two week curriculum focused on Ireland’s cultural heritage through museum visits and gallery tours in Dublin, trips to points of interest in Kerry and Cork, and projects developed at Cow House Studios.
During this programme students have had opportunities to study painting, drawing and photography in a focused and intimate studio environment, prioritizing individualized instruction. Additionally, bookmaking has been central to every student’s experience. Through technical demonstrations and conceptual assignments each student leaves Ireland with a handmade book addressing their particular interests and curiosities.
Highlights of the programme have included visits to many cultural sites in Dublin from galleries such as Hugh Lane, Douglas Hyde and Kerlin to studio visits at Temple Bar and Fire Station, and institutions such as the National Museum and the Irish Museum of Modern Art. Our trips to the west have included sites such as Skellig Michael, Gallerus Oratory and James Turrell’s Irish Sky Garden in Skibbereen, Co Cork. At the studios guest artists and visits from a traditional Irish storyteller complement full days of instruction and work on assigned projects.
