Cow House Studios Artist Residency

Since 2008 Cow House Studios has provided residency opportunities to professional artists during the Autumn. These residencies offer a valuable support structure for emerging and mid career artists, and bring critically engaging contemporary work to our rural community. With the support of Wexford County Council and Wexford Arts Centre this programme now partners with an Irish curator to provide crucial context for both the selection of the artists and exhibition of their work. For the 2015 residency RGKSKSRG, the paired curatorial practice of Rachael Gilbourne and Kate Strain, will be our first collaborators.

Applications for our 2016 residency programme will be available November, 2015. You can read a comprehensive FAQ about our autumn residency programme here…

14 September – 8 November 2015

Cow House Studios in collaboration with RGKSKSRG are delighted to announce the recipients of the Cow House Residency for 2015: artists Taro Furukata, and Ann Maria Healy, dancer/choreographer Claire Huber, and publisher/writer/artist duo KVM – Ju hyun Lee and Ludovic Burel.

The thematic residency titled I like to eat with my hands, and the subsequent exhibition seek to engage, collectively, with the deeply rural environment of Cow House Studios, located on a working farm in the foothills of the Blackstairs Mountains, County Wexford, Ireland.

The five selected practitioners will immerse themselves in research between the studios, the land and the shared accommodation, to create new work, share skills, and reflect on their own and others’ individual practices. Within this activity, the question is asked: can situating oneself within these new ‘Pig Earth’ surroundings potentially radicalise an existing working process? To prod and divine such an imagined proposition, the studio residency is accompanied by a series of gatherings, conversations, workshops, walks, dinner get-togethers, and screenings. This series of events will be lead by the following Associate Artists, invited by RGKSKSRG:

Fiona Hallinan (IE); Maria McKinney (IE); Gareth Kennedy (IE); Lee Welch and Linda Quinlan (US/IE).
The residency and related Associate Artists’ events take place over eight weeks from 14 September to 8 November 2015. The group exhibition will be presented the following year in September 2016 at Wexford Arts Centre, Ireland, curated by RGKSKSRG.
