Portfolio Preparation Course,
2011 dates to be announcedTeacher: Rosie O’Gorman
Capacity: 16 students
Price: €600
This intensive six day course will establish the groundwork for producing a portfolio of work needed for entry to third level colleges. This course focuses on idea generation, research, experimentation and critical thinking, complimented by practical demonstrations and workshops to advance technical skills. As the basis for their portfolio, students will generate and develop a conceptual and/or visual theme of personal interest.
This course emphasises experimentation through drawing, painting and construction. Visual research will be presented through notebooks, worksheets and resolved pieces. Topics and workshops will include; the study and application of colour theory, life drawing with a nude model, and looking at the work of contemporary artists. Students will spend the whole day in the studio; this intense period of making art allows for significant developments in thinking and creating, which not only yields a huge amount of work, but also reflects how students are expected to make work at third level. Plus it’s fun and very rewarding.
The course fee includes tuition, art materials, accommodation, and all meals. During the six days students will live at the Cow House, and will meet peers who share similar interests. The experience of living, eating and spending time together, forms an integral part of this course.
